How to check the temperature on your heat press?

We are from Delclynee Heat Press, we would like to talk to you about checking the temperature on your heat press. It's not quite as easy as you might think a lot of people say, well, just buy an infrared gun and check the platen and check the temperature all over and you know you'll see, what your real temperature is, and it's not quite easy in most cases, and I'm gonna show you why it's not easy.

An infrared gun is good for generalized temperatures but can often read 30-50°F due to angles, distance, reflections, so infrared tend to provide wide varying results. Another factor is checking surface temperature when it is heating, the surface temperature of the platen is also being cooled by air around it, but at this time the display shows the temperature numbers is from the inside heating tube.

As we know the proper temperature can make heating transfer successful------not necessarily the exact temperature of the platen which is more difficult to check. Although this process will still have some inconsistent readings, if you only have an infrared gun, I suggest you do the following steps to provide the accurate reading.

1. Set your press to a temperature to check, such as 350°F and allow the press to sit for a few minutes (5-10 minutes) to stabilize the temperature.

While heat presses will turn themselves on and off to maintain temperature, this is normal. Just like your home oven, the heating elements will continue to turn themselves on and off to maintain temperature.

2.Then press with medium pressure for about 60 seconds, and lift it up and get your reading quickly, Check at least 5 points or more across the platen and average temperatures.

3. Again, we do not feel this will have consistent results, but if you only have an infrared gun to check the temperature, this is usually a better test than pointing the infrared directly at the platen.

Please note that while a heat press is closed and in operation, it is normal for the temperature to decrease a few degrees, because the heat transfers into the garment, pad, and lower platen.
